Turning “Plan B” into “The A Plan”

Life slammed me sideways again last month. And when my best friend asked, “What are you going to do?” I answered with confidence, “Pull together a Plan B and land on my feet. What else? It’s what I do.”

And it is what I do. I piece together whatever I have to in order to keep the roof over our heads and food in our bellies. But in the big picture, this time, that’s not enough. I want more than to land on my feet and survive. I want to thrive.

To get different results, something has to change. What piece of the equation can I change? Not the slams of life – those conditions are beyond my control, and certainly not what I’d choose. So my reaction to the slams is what must change: Plan B.

I like Plan B. It’s a good workable plan that best utilized my experience and skills. The problem? It’s “Plan B.” STILL! I realized last week that as long as I always think of it as “Plan B” – the backup plan – that’s all it will ever be.

So, this week Plan B graduated to become The A Plan. No more waiting until the time is right, the stars are aligned, I know what I’m doing, I have the support of people who matter to me. I matter, and that’s enough. It’s time to put in the hours. Publish. Launch. Grow. Here’s to implementing The A Plan, come what may.

Your turn: Are you working and living YOUR A Plan? Why or why not? What are the challenges or rewards of doing so?
